Program: Attention to persons with disabilities
Where: Sports complex, Zona 3
Phone: 5403-5542
Responsible: Licda. Mariela Henry, board of mothers
Description: This group provides attention to children and teenagers with physical or mental disabilities; by developing activities and providing tools that will permit them to get to know and handle their own environment. Formed by attendants, their mothers and the therapist , the group does not have a regular budget, the support comes from donations or from the selling of handicrafts made by the group members.
Volunteer activities: You can choose between involving directly with the children by participating in activities such as sports, pool training and other games, part of their physical therapies. There is also a parallel primary schooling program, where you can also involve by strengthening the topics reviewed at school. Since the project is very small we prefer people with experience or familiarized with working with persons with disabilities.
Volunteers can also help with the creation of friendly spaces for people with disabilities, by helping their families building special rooms in their houses.
Amount of time: Working with the group: a minimum of three weeks is requested, this activity is usually carried out in the mornings. Building rooms: we request a minimum of 2 weeks either mornings or afternoons.
Observations: Since the Sport City Complex allows us to perform our activities, there are some regulations that must be fulfilled in order to continue working there, such as the use of bathing suit and swimming cap, as well as other recommendations that will be explained once you start working in the group.
