Description: CODECOT works in rural areas around Xela, providing prenatal care, assisting children delivery and providing counseling about family planning and sexual education for indigenous women. They also provide training to other midwifes (beginners or advanced) and own a small clinic authorized by the Ministry of Health
Volunteer work: They accept volunteers with higher experience in medicine such as doctors, nurses, midwifes or health professional. The requested Spanish level is advanced since most of the work is carried out with Maya Language speaking women.
Time amount: Four weeks, working either 3 or 4 days a week depending on the schedule, the clinic runs normally from Monday – Friday. And most of the work carried out occurs in rural areas.
