Description: Habitat for Humanity Guatemala is an NGO which specializes in community organization , technical assistance and the construction of low cost housing. Habitat uses a combination of donations, payments from interest free mortgages and volunteer work to build basic, affordable and sound housing for low income families .Habitat does not build homes for people but WITH people . All Habitat home owners participate in the building of their own home, and also assist in the building of another home in their community.
Volunteer work: Volunteers work with the family who will actually live in the house and are involved in All aspects of basic house construction. No previous experience is required only enthusiasm.
Habitat also have "blitz" builds in every affiliate , every year these involve a large group of international volunteers building multiple houses in one week.
Time amount: One week, their schedule is pretty flexible but if you wish to build a “blitz” project , the schedule consists from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m . If you're in an intensive Spanish course you can work in the mornings or afternoons. They also have Saturday projects around Xela.
Requirements: Habitat requires a donation of Q.50.00 to Q.100.00 to buy construction materials. |
